PARTY SUMMARY
Venue: My House
Location: Chicago
Summary:
My girlfriend and I host an annual wine tasting party. This year was our 5th annual and our largest to date - 100 people attending! Each year we choose a different type of wine to taste (Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Merlot, etc.). Each couple brings a bottle of wine that costs $20 or less in a bag along with $5 per bottle entered (the $5 goes towards the kitty). The hostess assigns each couple a number (nobody knows which number they are), and puts the bottle in a brown bag with that corresponding number. Every couple is assigned a table to taste at, and one person at each table is assigned as team captain. The team captain reads the tasting rules to the table, and everyone at that table tastes 4-6 bottles of wine (depends on how many people you have attending and how many bottle entries you have). Each person gets a rating sheet and rates the wine from a score of 0-10. The two wines that have the highest score per table enter the semi-finals. We flip flop the top two wines per table, and another table tastes those two bottles and again rates them. After every table has determined their winning bottle of wine, that wine goes to the finals. Each table chooses one person from their table to attend the "final round" and taste the winning bottles. Again each of those wines are scored, and you come up with a winning bottle of wine. We unveil losing bottles between rounds, so people can walk around and see if their bottle is still in the running. At the end we award prizes. First place gets 75% of the kitty, the 2nd place winner gets 25% of the kitty, 3rd place gets their $5 entry back and last place gets a funny prize.
We also ask everyone to bring an appetizer or dessert to share!
